I'm looking at buying a 1984 or 85 svo and i dont know which it is because i havent gotten a chance to go look at it but what i was wondering is how hard is it to up the power rating from 175hp to 200hp like they did after 1985 1/2.

The easiest thing, cheapest and best "feel in the seat" would be to change the rear gears from 3:45. You can't go too much as the early car was a tall first - but boy it will liven up the car 2rd to 5th.

P.S. Don't be suprised if you start looking at 84/85's they have been motified with the
1) TWO DIFFERENT INTAKES
2) DIFFERENTCAM
3) PE ECC IV (La3 for cheap mod)
4) 35LB injectors
5) Fuel upgrades
6) .063 turbo
7) Internal ratio differences for T5
8) Rear end ration over 3:73
then there is the tower shifter etc etc etc (173 total differences)

P.S. The one reverse mod (call it) would be to retain the the 3 sheeve crank pulley to drive the AC. The 85.5/86 drives off the water pump- not the best idea !

If the VIN has an "EF" in the tenth and eleventh positions it's an 84 model.

If the VIN has an "FF" in the tenth and eleventh positions it's an 85 or an 85.5 model.

If it has the recessed glass headlights and a single exhaust it's an 85.

If it has the flush headlights and dual exhaust it's an 85.5.

There are other things to distinguish them apart but these are the quick and easy stuff.

I think you meant .48 A/R. 84 and 85 had a .60/.63 A/R turbo stock. An 85 also has a 3.73 diff stock.
